MY STORY

Hi. I’m Nova. I live in Portland with my husband, a couple of rad kids, and a goofy doodle named Baloo. I’ve been in Portland since 2009. Prior to that I lived on some sailboats for a few years, all over the world. I was teaching sailing in outdoor education programs. It was sailing that brought me to Portland where I fell hopelessly in love with the coast, the people, the community, and of course the restaurants. Though I had planned to stay for 6 months before going back out to sea, I’m still here 14 years later.

Originally, I’m from New York City. I grew up in Soho, the daughter of a pair of hippie artists. They sent me to fancy schools like The Hotchkiss School and University of Pennsylvania, thinking that I’d become a doctor. Turns out I’m not that kind of nerd. I’m a real estate nerd.

I love everything about property evaluation - how structures are built and designed, how they can be redesigned, how they're maintained, lived in, valued, how they change hands. I like to think about how our spaces impact our lives, how they impact the planet, how we can treat properties better so that they can treat us and the climate better. I like to think of property ownership as property relationship. They give back to us what we put into them, energetically and financially.

My job is not just about the purchase and sale transaction. It’s about the people buying and selling and the community of businesses and resources that support that process. What I love about this job is that I feel deeply involved in my community in a way that has a meaningful impact. Buying or selling a property is always a big deal, whether it is your first transaction or your tenth. It is always the ending of one chapter and the beginning of a next, and that always carries weight. I get to be a trusted resource to help guide people through that transition, taking away their stress and infusing the experience with positivity, professionalism, and success. It’s such a privilege.

What is Waypoint Brokers Collective About

EXPERTISE

Expertise is not a place we arrive at. It's a practice of constant learning and professional evolution. I challenge myself to learn everyday. I seek it in professional development, direct experience, and by surrounding myself with brilliant mentors who know more than me.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION

I learned a long time ago in my previous career working with people in end of life care that the most important thing in this life is connection with people. I tap in to my people, to my clients, to the community. I give back to the community with regular nonprofit donations, but also, as important to me as giving money, is giving my time. I give my time with hands on volunteer work because it grounds me in community the way donations cannot.

SERVICE

This is what it's all about. I'm here to help. What do you need in real estate? My job is to figure out how to best  reach that goal. Every client is different and every property is different. My philosophy is that service requires creativity, problem solving, and intuition. That's what I bring.
